Australia v West Indies

2nd Test, Perth, 1-3 Dec, 2000

AUSTRALIA WON BY INNS & 27 RUNS (Lead series 2-0)

AWESOME AUSTRALIA
The only way is up for Jimmy Adams and his sorry looking team, after a second successive innings drubbing at the hands of Steve Waugh's all-conquering Australians.

Lara failed, Adams attempted to defy the home side, but only Wavell Hinds showed any real resistance with 50 and 41. But they really miss Shivnarine Chanderpaul's gutsy innings', with Campbell and Sarwan not making any impression, only Jacobs fighting 968 in the first innings kept the game alive.

McGrath and co always looked the likely victor. Batting is always easier if your bowlers have restricted the opposition. With the talent of Australia's top six and some useful contributions from Gilchrist, Brett Lee and MacGill (109 runs between them), Australia were definitely in the box seat, as West Indies trailed by 200.

Is Courtney Walsh enjoying his last tour and possibly series? You would not have thought so, backing up his young pace companions and trying to do his bit for the team must be disheartening even for someone of his experience and ability.

If they can comeback and salvage anything from the last three Tests - even to draw one would seem a tough ask - then all is not completely lost. But the days of a strong West Indies team have disappeared over the horizon for the foreseeable future.
